Center Hours
9:00-12:00 Walk-in assistance
1:00-5:00  Appointments
We cannot return phone calls until after 1:00

The Center provides a caring Christian presence to the people in the Benton Harbor area.  Its community outreach services provide information, personal support and assistance with food, utilities and other basic needs.

It also functions as a resource redistribution center, where people can share their talents, skills, resources, and time with those who need help.  In particular, we would appreciate additional volunteers to work in the office greeting people, answering the phone, and working with files. Volunteers are used for working in the food pantry as well loading/unloading groceries, etc. and packing bags of food for food distribution days. There is also a thrift store.

It is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with people in our community and to help those who are seeking assistance.  The Catholic Community Center generally needs: laundry and dish soap, toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo.

Thrift Store Hours
9:00-2:00 Monday - Thursday

The Thrift Store can always use the following gently used items: Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom, Clothing, Winter Wear.

Drop off any day M-F 9:00-3:00

Jail Ministry

This ministry serves those who are incarcerated in Berrien County Jail.  Volunteers are there to assure them that they are not forgotten by the Catholic Church. Prayer services and ministering are done once a week. A training session is held with Sr. Rita Schafer (now retired from working at the Catholic Community Center) prior to entering this ministry. Ministers also participate in the training session of the Forgotten Man Ministries which supplies chaplains to many jails. Each person is photographed and fingerprinted for identification purposes for admittance to the jail. Those interested in this ministry can reach Sr. Rita via the Parish Office at (269) 925-2425 .

Soup Kitchen

SS. John & Bernard Parish provides volunteers for the Soup Kitchen on the 1st Friday of every month and the 4th Monday of every other month.
